Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Afternoon (Sunday, April 6, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at 2:32 PM WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 41 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be approximately None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

The eruption was not visually observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 24 millimeters and a duration of 37 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity from 00:00 to 06:00 WIT on April 6, 2025, showed 25 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 10-28 millimeters and durations of 26-65 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 54 tremor events with amplitudes of 2-9 millimeters and durations of 19-42 seconds, and 1 harmonic tremor with an amplitude of 8 millimeters and a duration of 81 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a 5-kilometer sectoral extension towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,635 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,221 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 1,020 times.
