Prevalence of Inadequate Food Consumption in Sampang Decreases by 4.35% in the Last Year

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Sampang Regency, East Java, reached 9.09% in 2023.

This figure is down 4.35% from the previous year's 13.44%, while it has increased by 4.14% over the past five years.

The average PoU in Indonesia was 8.53% in 2023. This means that the PoU in Sampang Regency is higher than the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where a person regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy needs for a normal, active, and healthy life. This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity.

This means that the percentage of residents in Sampang Regency who consume food but lack sufficient energy needs does not reach 9.09% of the total population.

Compared to 37 other regencies/cities in East Java Province, Sampang Regency ranks 25th in terms of PoU. The regency with the lowest PoU (highest ranking) is Gresik Regency (3.67%), and the highest (lowest ranking) is Situbondo Regency (13.33%).
