Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Afternoon (Sunday, September 28, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Sunday (28/9/2025) at 12:48 WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 34 times.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around None meters above the peak or None meters above sea level.

No visual eruption was observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 52 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on September 28, 2025, from 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 106 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 15-28 millimeters and durations of 31-79 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 2 rockfall earthquakes with an amplitude of 2 mm and durations of 37-42 seconds, and 8 exhalation earthquakes with amplitudes of 3-10 millimeters and durations of 41-52 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to carry out activities within a 2-kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,412 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,520 times) while Mount Ibu erupted 2,312 times.
