Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again Tonight (Monday, October 28, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Monday, October 28, 2024, at 6:42 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 5 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the visual eruption was not observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 11 millimeters and a duration of 379 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on October 28, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM WITA showed 2 instances of puffing earthquakes with an amplitude of 2.2 millimeters and a duration of 141-168 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 4 harmonic tremors with an amplitude of 2.2-2.9 millimeters and a duration of 104-373 seconds, and 2 deep volcanic earthquakes with an amplitude of 7.4-44 millimeters, s-p 0.8-1.2 seconds, and a duration of 13-14 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 3-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and Mount Lewotobi Perempuan, and 4 kilometers in the northeast sector and 5 kilometers in the northeast sector from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 4,614 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Ibu in North Maluku had the most eruptions (1,876 eruptions), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 842 times.
