Indonesia, The Most Optimistic Country in Welcoming the New Year 2026

According to an Ipsos survey, an average of 71% of global respondents are optimistic that the new year 2026 will bring more good things than 2025.

The highest level of optimism is in Indonesia, where 90% of respondents feel this way.

Other countries that are considered very optimistic about welcoming the new year 2026 include Colombia, Chile, Thailand, Peru, India, Argentina, South Africa, Mexico, and Malaysia, as shown in the graph.

Although optimism for the new year in Indonesia is very high, quite a number of citizens are concerned about economic conditions.

As many as 54% of Indonesian respondents predict that the national economy will experience a recession or slow down in 2026. A similar trend is also seen in other countries.

"Almost half of all respondents, or an average of 48% of respondents globally, expect their country to experience a recession in 2026," Ipsos stated in its Predictions 2026 Report.

Ipsos conducted this survey in October-November 2025, involving 23,642 adult respondents across 30 countries. The number of respondents in Indonesia was approximately 1,000 people.
