Surabaya City has the largest population in East Java Province, with 3.01 million inhabitants (7.23%) of the total population.

Following Surabaya are Malang Regency with 2.71 million inhabitants (6.51%), Jember Regency with 2.6 million inhabitants (6.24%), and Sidoarjo Regency with 2.0 million inhabitants (4.79%).

Mojokerto City has the smallest population among the regencies/cities, with only 141,780 inhabitants (0.34%).

Administratively, East Java Province is divided into 9 cities and 29 regencies, with 31 districts comprising 153 urban villages.

Based on marital status, 51.56% of the population of East Java Province is married, while 39.98% are unmarried. The population with divorced and widowed statuses reached 2.37% and 6.09%, respectively.
