Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Afternoon (Thursday, February 27, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Thursday (27/2/2025) at 2:16 PM WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 59 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed at approximately None meters above the peak or None meters above sea level.

The eruption was not visually observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 96 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on February 27, 2025, from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM WIT showed 19 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 12-28 millimeters and durations of 44-110 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 49 tremor events with amplitudes of 2-14 millimeters and durations of 14-68 seconds, and 3 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 3-11 millimeters and durations of 77-220 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a 5-kilometer sectoral extension towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,693 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (802 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 723 times.
