Mount Ili Lewotolok Erupts Again Today, Eruption Height Reaches 200 Meters

Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Wednesday (July 30, 2025) at 7:41 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Ili Lewotolok has erupted 4 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the observed ash column reached 200 meters above the peak or 1,623 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to grey with thick intensity towards the west. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 39 millimeters and a duration of 47 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ili Lewotolok is at Level III (Alert). Seismicity observations on July 30, 2025, from 12:00-18:00 WITA showed 46 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 11.7-35.8 millimeters and earthquake durations of 33-45 seconds.

Subsequently, there were 49 times of exhalation earthquakes with amplitudes of 2-9.3 millimeters and earthquake durations of 28-40 seconds, and 2 times of deep volcanic earthquakes with amplitudes of 1.6-1.9 millimeters s-p 0.7-1.7 seconds and earthquake durations of 10-13 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Ili Lewotolok, as well as visitors/climbers/tourists, not to enter or conduct activities within a 3-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Ili Lewotolok's activity, and to be aware of the potential dangers from lava falls/landslides and hot clouds from the South and Southeast sectors, West sector, and Northeast sector of Mount Ili Lewotolok.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,385 volcano eruptions/explosions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,163 times), while Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted 201 times.
