Mount Dukono Erupts Again This Morning (Friday, April 18, 2025)

Mount Dukono in North Maluku erupted again on Friday, April 18, 2025, at 09.31 WIT. In the last week, Mount Dukono has erupted 12 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 900 meters above the peak or 1,987 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with thick intensity towards the west. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 27 millimeters and a duration of 46.23 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Dukono's activity level is at Level II (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on April 18, 2025, from 00.00 to 23.59 WIT showed 294 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 6-34 millimeters and durations of 30.33-136.47 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 2 distant tectonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 11-14 millimeters, S-P 19.58 seconds, and durations of 66.99-69.72 seconds, as well as 1 continuous tremor with an amplitude of 1-4 millimeters, predominantly 2 millimeters.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Dukono and visitors/tourists not to conduct activities, climb, or approach the Malupang Warirang Crater within a 4-kilometer radius.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,933 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,337 eruptions), while Mount Dukono erupted 92 times.
