Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again Tonight (Monday, February 24, 2025)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Monday, February 24, 2025, at 7:39 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 5 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 700 meters above the peak or 2,284 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with moderate intensity towards the north and northeast. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 29.6 millimeters and a duration of 168 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on February 24, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM WITA showed 3 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 29.6-47.3 millimeters and durations of 68-87 seconds.

Then, there were 5 puffing quakes with amplitudes of 5.9-10.5 millimeters and durations of 76-130 seconds, and 3 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 5.9-7.4 millimeters and durations of 48-207 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 5-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and in the southwest-north-northeast sector up to 6 kilometers.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,556 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (752 eruptions), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 76 times.
