Warning! Mount Semeru Erupts Again This Afternoon (Wednesday, March 5, 2025)

Mount Semeru in East Java erupted again on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at 12:57 WIB (Western Indonesian Time). In the last week, Mount Semeru has erupted 44 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be approximately None meters above the peak or None meters above sea level.

The eruption was not visually observed. The eruption of Mount Semeru was still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Semeru is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations from March 5, 2025, 00:00-23:59 WIB, showed 64 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 10-22 millimeters and durations of 51-167 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 7 tremor quakes with amplitudes of 4-8 millimeters and durations of 34-56 seconds, and 2 deep volcanic quakes with amplitudes of 25 millimeters, s-p 2.6-2.8 seconds, and durations of 19 seconds.

The PVMBG advises against any activity in the southeast sector along Besuk Kobokan, up to 8 kilometers from the peak (eruption center). Outside this distance, people should not engage in activities within 500 meters of the riverbank (river buffer zone) along Besuk Kobokan due to the potential for pyroclastic flow and lahar flows extending up to 13 kilometers from the peak.
