Mount Ili Lewotolok Erupts Again This Afternoon (Saturday, July 26, 2025)

Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Saturday (July 26, 2025) at 02:07 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Ili Lewotolok has erupted 17 times.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around 400 meters above the peak or 1,823 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with moderate intensity towards the northwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 20.4 millimeters and a duration of 48 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ili Lewotolok is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on July 26, 2025, from 06:00 AM to 12:00 PM WITA, showed 34 eruption tremors with amplitudes of 7.8-32.7 millimeters and tremor durations of 37-59 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 20 exhalation tremors with amplitudes of 1.6-5.8 millimeters and tremor durations of 28-40 seconds, as well as 1 local tectonic earthquake with an amplitude of 1.5 millimeters s-p 4 seconds and a duration of 21 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Ili Lewotolok, as well as visitors/climbers/tourists, not to enter or conduct activities within a 3-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Ili Lewotolok's activity, and to be aware of the potential hazards from lava falls/landslides and pyroclastic clouds from the South and Southeast sectors, West sector, and Northeast sector of Mount Ili Lewotolok.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,316 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,140 times), while Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted 194 times.
