Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again Today, Ash Column Reaches 600 Meters

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Monday (August 11, 2025) at 07:27 AM WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki only erupted once.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around 600 meters above the peak (2,184 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with moderate to thick intensity towards the southwest and west. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 29.6 millimeters and a duration of 62 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Seismicity observations on August 11, 2025, from 00:00-06:00 AM WITA showed 3 times of emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 2.9-4.4 millimeters and earthquake durations of 46-53 seconds.

Then, 2 times of harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 3.7-10.5 millimeters and earthquake durations of 149-153 seconds, and 2 times of non-harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2.2-4.4 millimeters and earthquake durations of 64-82 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to engage in any activities within a 6-kilometer radius from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,556 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted the most (2,218 times) while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 453 times.
