Warning! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Morning (Tuesday, May 28, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Tuesday (28/5/2024) at 10:24 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted twice.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the visual eruption was not observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28.12 millimeters and a duration of 103 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level II (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on May 28, 2024, from 00:00 to 23:59 WITA, showed 1 eruption/volcanic earthquake with an amplitude of 20.7 millimeters and a duration of 109 seconds.

Then, there were 2 rockfall earthquakes with amplitudes of 18.5-37 mm and durations of 114-124 seconds, and 2 tremor earthquakes with amplitudes of 5.1-17.7 millimeters and durations of 31-34 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 2-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, and a sectoral 3-kilometer radius in the Northeast direction and a 5-kilometer radius in the Northeast sector.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 815 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (326 eruptions), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 122 times.
