Mount Semeru Erupts Again Early This Morning (Monday, November 24, 2025)

Mount Semeru in East Java erupted again on Monday (11/24/2025) at 03:04 AM Western Indonesian Time. In the last week, Mount Semeru only erupted once.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to reach None meters above the peak or None meters above sea level.

No visual eruption was observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 22 millimeters and a duration of 142 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcano activity report, Mount Semeru's activity level is at Level IV (Alert). Seismicity observations on November 24, 2025, from 18:00-23:59 Western Indonesian Time, showed 54 eruption earthquakes with amplitudes of 10-22 millimeters and durations of 70-222 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 4 rockfall earthquakes with amplitudes of 4-13 mm and durations of 62-118 seconds, and 1 exhalation earthquake with an amplitude of 5 millimeters and a duration of 56 seconds.

PVMBG advises against any activities in the southeast sector along Besuk Kobokan, as far as 20 kilometers from the peak (eruption center). Beyond that distance, people should not engage in activities within 500 meters from the riverbanks along Besuk Kobokan due to the potential for hot cloud expansion and lava flows.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 7,021 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java has erupted the most with 2,813 occurrences.
