Warning! Mount Semeru Erupts Again This Morning (Friday, November 28, 2025)

Mount Semeru in East Java erupted again on Friday (November 28, 2025) at 08.50 WIB. In the last week, Mount Semeru has erupted 50 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around None meters above the peak or None meters above sea level.

The visual eruption was not observed. The eruption of Mount Semeru was still ongoing when this report was made.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Semeru is at Level IV (Alert). Seismicity observations on November 28, 2025, from 00.00-06.00 WIB showed 36 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 12-22 millimeters and earthquake durations of 86-129 seconds.

Then, there were 10 rockfall earthquakes with amplitudes of 4-6 mm and earthquake durations of 23-53 seconds, and 1 gas emission earthquake with an amplitude of 5 millimeters and an earthquake duration of 39 seconds.

PVMBG urges against any activities in the southeast sector along Besuk Kobokan, as far as 20 kilometers from the peak (eruption center). Beyond that distance, the public is advised not to engage in activities within 500 meters from the riverbanks (river borders) along Besuk Kobokan due to the potential for expansion of hot clouds and lava flows.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 7,091 volcano eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java has erupted the most, with 2,862 occurrences.
