Warning! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again Tonight (Wednesday, July 10, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at 8:45 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 21 times.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column height was observed at approximately 700 meters above the peak or 2,284 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the southwest and west. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 37 millimeters and a duration of 138 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on July 10, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM WITA showed 1 eruption earthquake with an amplitude of 37 millimeters and a duration of 422 seconds.

Then, there were 11 shallow volcanic earthquakes with amplitudes of 3.7-16.2 millimeters and durations of 7-14 seconds, and 2 deep volcanic earthquakes with amplitudes of 5.1 millimeters, s-p 1.2-2.1 seconds, and durations of 10-11 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 3-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and Mount Lewotobi Perempuan, and 4 kilometers in the North-Northeast sector and 5 kilometers in the Northeast sector from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,570 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (689 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 335 times.
