Gender Equality Index in 8 Indonesian Industrial Sectors 2025

Gender equality is a fundamental foundation in corporate governance. However, this has not been implemented evenly by large companies in Indonesia.

This is evident from the research report of the Katadata Environmental, Social, and Governance Index (KESGI) 2025, released by the Katadata Insight Center (KIC).

KIC conducted an independent assessment of ESG fulfillment, including gender equality, in 276 companies from eight industrial sectors listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI).

The highest gender equality index was found in the energy sector, with a score of 64.9 out of a scale of 0-100 points.

The banking sector also performed quite strongly in this regard, with a score of 61.5.

According to KIC, a high gender equality index reflects a company's success in building an inclusive work culture.

"Gender equality indicators, such as equal pay, gender-based workforce composition, and the prevention of discrimination and harassment, are among the drivers of improved governance performance," said KIC in the KESGI 2025 report.

"Ensuring that everyone feels safe and valued in the workplace is a fundamental foundation before discussing career opportunities or development programs," it continued.

KIC compiled this gender equality index using the Gender Equality Assessment, Results, and Strategies (GEARS) framework designed by Investing in Women (IW) and the Indonesia Business Coalition for Women Empowerment (IBCWE).

The assessment framework contains 10 criteria and 22 indicators, covering equal pay, workforce composition, workplace harassment prevention policies, and so on.

In KESGI 2025, KIC also conducted an independent assessment of other ESG indicators to measure the sustainability performance of large companies in Indonesia. The full report can be downloaded here.
