Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Morning (Wednesday, October 1, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Wednesday (October 1, 2025) at 10:19 AM WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 17 times.

Reporting eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to reach None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

No visual eruption was observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 68 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level II (Alert). Seismicity observations on October 1, 2025, from 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 101 eruption/explosive earthquakes with amplitudes of 14-28 millimeters and durations of 32-81 seconds.

Furthermore, 2 rockfall earthquakes with an amplitude of 2 mm and durations of 33-43 seconds, and 5 exhalation earthquakes with amplitudes of 4-10 millimeters and durations of 35-43 seconds occurred.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 2-kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,480 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,540 times) while Mount Ibu erupted 2,332 times.
