Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Morning (Thursday, November 27, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Thursday (27/11/2025) at 09.17 WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 18 times.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column observed reached 800 meters above the peak (2,125 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be grey to brown with moderate to thick intensity towards the south. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 57 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level II (Alert). Seismicity observations on November 27, 2025, from 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 125 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 12-28 millimeters and earthquake durations of 31-68 seconds.

Then, 2 rockfall earthquakes with an amplitude of 2 mm and durations of 37-45 seconds, and 4 emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 5-10 millimeters and durations of 32-46 seconds occurred.

PVMBG urges communities around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a radius of 2 kilometers and a sectoral expansion of 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 7,074 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,848 times) while Mount Ibu erupted 2,562 times.
