Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Morning, Ash Column Reaches 400 Meters Above the Peak

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at 05:22 WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 6 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 400 meters above the peak (1,725 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the southwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 64 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on December 10, 2024, from 18:00 to 23:59 WIT showed 11 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 26-28 millimeters and durations of 47-106 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 26 tremor quakes with amplitudes of 3-17 millimeters and durations of 22-48 seconds, and 11 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 4-18 millimeters and durations of 30-110 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a 5.5-kilometer sectoral expansion towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.
