Household Milk Consumption in Indonesia is Lowest Among the Poor

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the higher a household's expenditure, the higher its milk consumption, and vice versa. It was recorded that the average household milk consumption in the lowest 40% expenditure group was lower than that of other expenditure groups in March 2021.

For processed liquid milk, the average per capita consumption per month for households in the lowest 40% expenditure group was 43 grams. This was the lowest compared to households in the middle 40% and top 20% expenditure groups, which were 97 grams and 309 grams, respectively.

A similar pattern was observed for powdered milk, sweetened condensed milk, and infant formula. For powdered milk, the average per capita monthly consumption for households in the lowest 40% expenditure group was 24 grams, while households in the middle 40% expenditure group consumed 64 grams, and the top 20% consumed 169 grams.

Furthermore, the average per capita monthly consumption of sweetened condensed milk for households in the lowest 40% expenditure group was 85 grams. Meanwhile, households in the middle 40% expenditure group consumed 138 grams, and the top 20% consumed 165 grams.

Finally, the average per capita monthly consumption of infant formula for households in the lowest 40% expenditure group was 30 grams. This was the lowest compared to households in the middle 40% and top 20% expenditure groups, which were 60 grams and 91 grams, respectively.
