Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Morning (Monday, August 25, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Monday (August 25, 2025) at 06:21 WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 2 times.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the observed ash column reached 400 meters above the peak (1,725 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be grey with thick intensity towards the southwest. Mount Ibu''s eruption was still ongoing when this report was made.

According to MAGMA Indonesia''s volcanic activity report, Mount Ibu''s activity level is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on August 25, 2025, from 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 131 eruption earthquakes with amplitudes of 11-28 millimeters and earthquake durations of 38.36-66.79 seconds.

Subsequently, there was 1 exhalation earthquake with an amplitude of 3 millimeters and an earthquake duration of 31.68 seconds, as well as 20 harmonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 2-28 millimeters and earthquake durations of 34.17-170.36 seconds.

PVMBG urged the community around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to carry out activities within a 2-kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu''s active crater.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,782 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,310 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 2,121 times.
