Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again Tonight (Sunday, April 20, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at 10:31 PM WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 79 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed at approximately None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

The eruption was not visually observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 44 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on April 20, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM WIT showed 17 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 14-28 millimeters and durations of 24-44 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 27 tremor quakes with amplitudes of 5-10 millimeters and durations of 22-26 seconds, and 37 shallow volcanic quakes with amplitudes of 3-12 millimeters and durations of 11-18 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a 5-kilometer sectoral expansion towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 3,055 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,361 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 1,170 times.
