Mount Dukono Erupts Again This Morning (Monday, September 15, 2025)

Mount Dukono in North Maluku erupted again on Monday (15/9/2025) at 07:53 WIT. In the last week, Mount Dukono only erupted once.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the observed ash column reached 500 meters above the peak or 1,587 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to grey with moderate intensity towards the northwest. Mount Dukono''s eruption was still ongoing when this report was made.

According to MAGMA Indonesia''s volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Dukono is at Level II (Alert). Seismicity observations on September 15, 2025, from 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 28 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 6-14 millimeters and earthquake durations of 35.1-89.9 seconds.

Additionally, 1 distant tectonic earthquake with an amplitude of 7 millimeters s-p was not observed and had a duration of 77.39 seconds, and 1 continuous tremor earthquake with an amplitude of 1-6 millimeters, dominant at 3 millimeters.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Dukono and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities, climb, or approach Malupang Warirang Crater within a 4-kilometer radius.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,107 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,450 times), while Mount Dukono erupted 497 times.
