Rupiah Ends Down at 17,037 (Monday, April 6, 2026)

Referring to the Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate (JISDOR) data from Bank Indonesia (BI), the exchange rate of the US dollar against the rupiah was Rp17,037 at the close of trading on Monday (6/4/2026).

This value weakened by 0.13% from the previous day's close of Rp17,015.

The weakening of the rupiah to the level of 17,000 is predicted to be due to pressure from increasing market concerns about the escalation of conflicts in the West Asian region (Middle East) and the surge in global crude oil prices.

"The rupiah is expected to weaken against the US dollar amid concerns about the escalation of war in the Middle East and the continued rise in crude oil prices," said Doo Financial Analyst Lukman Leong to Katadata when predicting the rupiah's movement in the morning.

Lukman stated that the heated geopolitical situation is prompting market participants to seek safe haven assets, including the US dollar. This directly impacts the weakening of emerging market currencies, including the rupiah.

In addition, the strengthening of the US dollar is also driven by the release of US employment data, particularly the Non-Farm Payrolls (NFP), which recorded stronger than market expectations.

This data strengthens the outlook for the US economy and opens up the possibility of a longer period of tight monetary policy by the US central bank.

"The US dollar index itself rose supported by stronger-than-expected US NFP employment data," said Lukman.
