Mount Ili Lewotolok Erupts on Saturday Night, Activity Level at Alert

Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Saturday (September 13, 2025) at 6:08 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Ili Lewotolok has erupted 11 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around 400 meters above the peak or 1,823 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with thick intensity towards the west. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 30.4 millimeters and a duration of 45 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia''s volcanic activity report, Mount Ili Lewotolok''s activity level is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on September 13, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM WITA, showed 37 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 15.6-33.5 millimeters and durations of 39-76 seconds. Additionally, 50 gas emission tremors with amplitudes of 1.4-20.2 millimeters and durations of 20-75 seconds were recorded.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Ili Lewotolok as well as visitors/hikers/tourists not to enter and not to carry out activities within a 3-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Ili Lewotolok''s activity, to be aware of the potential dangers from lava avalanches/landslides and pyroclastic clouds from the South and Southeast sectors, the West sector, and the Northeast sector of Mount Ili Lewotolok.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,082 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted the most (2,438 times), while Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted 268 times.
