Alert! Mount Ili Lewotolok Erupts Again This Afternoon (Monday, April 13, 2026)

Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Monday (April 13, 2026) at 11:42 WITA. In the past week, Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted only once.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height was around 500 meters above the peak or 1,923 meters above sea level.

The observed ash column was gray to black in color with thick intensity heading west. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 38 millimeters and a duration of 42 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ili Lewotolok is at Level II (Alert). Volcanic earthquake observations on April 13, 2026 from 00:00 to 23:59 WITA showed 31 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 19.5-38.9 millimeters and durations of 31-64 seconds.

Additionally, there was 1 collapse earthquake with an amplitude of 5.8 mm and a duration of 76 seconds, as well as 167 emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 5.8-19.5 millimeters and durations of 35-50 seconds.

PVMBG urges residents around Mount Ili Lewotolok as well as visitors/hikers/tourists not to enter and not carry out activities within a 2-kilometer radius of Mount Ili Lewotolok's activity center.

Throughout 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,444 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (782 times) while Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted 34 times.
