Purworejo's Poverty Rate Increases by 4,000 People in a Year

The number of impoverished people in Indonesia increased during the Covid-19 pandemic. This phenomenon occurred, among other places, in Purworejo Regency, Central Java.

The 2021 National Socioeconomic Survey (Susenas) shows that the number of impoverished people in Purworejo Regency increased by 4,010 to a total of 88,800 in March 2021 compared to March 2020.

The percentage of Purworejo Regency's population living below the poverty line increased by 0.62 percentage points to 12.4% in March 2021 compared to the previous year.

The poverty line in the region also increased by Rp11,838 per capita per month, bringing the minimum threshold to Rp376,127 per capita per month in March 2021.

In line with the increase in the number of impoverished people, the poverty depth index (P1) in Purworejo Regency increased to 1.36 in March 2021 compared to 0.98 in March 2020.

The poverty severity index (P2) in one of the regencies in the province led by Governor Ganjar Pranowo also recorded an increase to 0.28 in March 2021 compared to March of the previous year.
