Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Morning (Sunday, September 15, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Sunday (September 15, 2024) at 10:14 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 30 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the visual eruption was not observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 17 millimeters and a duration of 399 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on September 15, 2024, from 00:00 to 06:00 WITA showed 1 eruption earthquake with an amplitude of 8.34 millimeters and a duration of 189 seconds.

Then, there were 3 volcanic earthquakes with amplitudes of 1.48-5.18 millimeters, s-p 0.76-2.62 seconds, and durations of 13-23 seconds, as well as 1 distant tectonic earthquake with an amplitude of 1.48 millimeters, s-p 10.98 seconds, and a duration of 40 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 3-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and Mount Lewotobi Perempuan, and 4 kilometers in the northwest, north, and south-southeast directions from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 3,702 volcanic eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Ibu in North Maluku had the most eruptions (1,500 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 652 times.
