Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again Tonight (Sunday, December 15, 2024)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at 9:27 PM WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 57 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to reach None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

The eruption was not visually observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 23 millimeters and a duration of 56 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on December 15, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM WIT showed 18 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 17-28 millimeters and durations of 44-57 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 15 puffing quakes with amplitudes of 3-18 millimeters and durations of 20-49 seconds, and 4 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 4-12 millimeters and durations of 34-89 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a sectoral extension of 5.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia recorded 5,947 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Ibu in North Maluku had the most eruptions, with 2,460.
