Mount Ibu Erupts Again Tonight (Monday, September 29, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Monday (29/9/2025) at 8:26 PM WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 8 times.

Reporting eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

No visual eruption was observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 65 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ibu is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on September 29, 2025, from 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 102 eruption earthquakes with amplitudes of 15-28 millimeters and earthquake durations of 30-70 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 2 exhalation earthquakes with amplitudes of 4-6 millimeters and earthquake durations of 34-35 seconds, and 19 harmonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 2-20 millimeters and earthquake durations of 28-125 seconds.

PVMBG urges the community around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to carry out activities within a 2-kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,447 volcano eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,531 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 2,323 times.
