Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again Tonight, Ash Plume 1,000 Meters Above Peak

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Monday (6/10/2025) at 00.26 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki only erupted once.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the observed ash column reached 1,000 meters above the peak (2,584 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be white with thick intensity towards the southwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 4.4 millimeters and a duration of 191 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Seismicity observations on October 6, 2025, from 18.00-23.59 WITA, showed 1 gust earthquake with an amplitude of 3.7 millimeters and a duration of 32 seconds.

Subsequently, 7 non-harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2.9-5.1 millimeters and durations of 64-188 seconds, and 1 distant tectonic earthquake with an amplitude of 2.2 millimeters (s-p unobserved) and a duration of 124 seconds occurred.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 6-kilometer radius from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,544 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,561 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 683 times.
