Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Morning (Wednesday, April 9, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at 08:48 WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 29 times.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column height was observed at approximately 600 meters above the peak or 1,925 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the southeast. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 47 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on April 9, 2025, from 00:00 to 06:00 WIT showed 13 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 18-28 millimeters and durations of 21-58 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 37 tremor events with amplitudes of 3-6 millimeters and durations of 18-30 seconds, and 46 shallow volcanic earthquakes with amplitudes of 3-11 millimeters and durations of 14-34 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a 5-kilometer sectoral expansion towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,691 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,247 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 1,043 times.
