Food Insecurity Prevalence in Dharmasraya Reaches 6.25% in 2023

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Dharmasraya Regency, West Sumatra, was 6.25% in 2023.

This figure is down 0.4% from the previous year's 6.65%, while it has increased by 1.47% over the past five years.

The average PoU in Indonesia was 8.53% in 2023. This means that the PoU in Dharmasraya Regency is lower than the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where a person regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy needs for a normal, active, and healthy life. This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity.

This means that the percentage of residents in Dharmasraya Regency who consume food but lack sufficient energy needs does not reach 6.25% of the total population.

Compared to 18 other regencies/cities in West Sumatra Province, Dharmasraya Regency ranks 3rd in terms of PoU. The areas with the lowest PoU (top ranking) are Sawahlunto/Sijunjung Regency (5.88%), and the highest (bottom ranking) is Mentawai Islands Regency (10.62%).
