Warning! Mount Dukono Erupts Again This Morning (Saturday, August 23, 2025)

Mount Dukono in North Maluku erupted again on Saturday (August 23, 2025) at 08:54 AM WIT. In the last week, Mount Dukono has erupted 8 times.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around 400 meters above the peak or 1,487 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with moderate to thick intensity towards the east. The eruption of Mount Dukono was still ongoing when this report was made.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcanic activity report, Mount Dukono''s activity level is at Level II (Alert). Seismicity observations on August 23, 2025, from 00:00 to 23:59 WIT showed 38 eruption tremors/earthquakes with amplitudes of 6-14 millimeters and durations of 32.33-72.35 seconds.

Furthermore, there was 1 distant tectonic earthquake with an amplitude of 33 millimeters s-p 11.64 seconds and a duration of 60.55 seconds, and 1 continuous tremor with an amplitude of 2-7 millimeters, dominant at 4 millimeters.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Dukono and visitors/tourists not to carry out activities, climb, or approach Malupang Warirang Crater within a 4-kilometer radius.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,747 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,301 times), while Mount Dukono erupted 484 times.
