Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Evening (Saturday, May 25, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at 5:47 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 17 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the eruption was not visually observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 20.72 millimeters and a duration of 118 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level II (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on May 25, 2024, from 00:00 to 23:59 WITA showed 5 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 7.4-47.3 millimeters and durations of 96-217 seconds.

Furthermore, there was 1 puffing quake with an amplitude of 29.6 millimeters and a duration of 27 seconds, and 1 harmonic tremor with an amplitude of 5.9 millimeters and a duration of 434 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 2-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, and within a 3-kilometer sectoral area in the Northeast direction and a 5-kilometer sectoral area in the East Northeast direction.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 791 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (310 eruptions), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 119 times.
