Prevalence of Undernourishment in Gresik Drops 0.77% in the Last Year

Statistics Indonesia (BPS) reported that the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Gresik Regency, East Java, was 2.9% in 2024.

This figure decreased by 0.77% from the previous year's 3.67%, while in the last 5 years it has decreased by 0.33%.

Indonesia's average PoU was 8.27% in 2024. This means the PoU in Gresik Regency is lower than the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where a person regularly consumes an amount of food that is insufficient to meet the energy required for a normal, active, and healthy life.

This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food security and nutrition conditions.

This means that less than 2.9% of the total population in Gresik Regency consumes food but lacks sufficient energy needs.

Compared to 37 other regencies/cities in East Java Province, the PoU in Gresik Regency ranks 2nd. The area with the lowest PoU (top rank) is Surabaya City (2.37%) and the highest (last rank) is Situbondo Regency (17.35%).
