Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Morning (Tuesday, October 28, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Tuesday (October 28, 2025) at 08:54 WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 4 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around 300 meters above the peak or 1,625 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with moderate to thick intensity towards the northeast and east. The eruption of Mount Ibu was still ongoing when this report was made.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ibu is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on October 28, 2025, from 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 53 eruption tremors with amplitudes of 17-28 millimeters and a duration of 26-74 seconds.

Furthermore, there was 1 exhalation tremor with an amplitude of 7 millimeters and a duration of 38 seconds, and 17 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2-20 millimeters and a duration of 42-220 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a radius of 2 kilometers and a sectoral expansion of 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,803 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted the most (2,695 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 2,449 times.
