Food Insecurity Prevalence in Magelang Reaches 11.23% in 2023

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Magelang Regency, Central Java, was 11.23% in 2023.

This figure is down 4.61% from the previous year's 15.84%, and down 2.9% over the past five years.

The average PoU in Indonesia was 8.53% in 2023. This means that the PoU in Magelang Regency is higher than the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where a person regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy needs for a normal, active, and healthy life. This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity.

This means that the population in Magelang Regency who consume food but whose energy needs are insufficient does not reach 11.23% of the total population.

Compared to 34 other regencies/cities in Central Java Province, Magelang Regency ranks 24th in PoU. The area with the lowest PoU (top ranking) is Salatiga City (5.83%), and the highest (bottom ranking) is Purworejo Regency (14.71%).
