Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Morning, Ash Plume 400 Meters Above Peak

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Tuesday (October 14, 2025) at 06:27 WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 5 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the observed ash column reached 400 meters above the peak (1,725 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be white to grey with thick intensity towards the northeast. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 32.55 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcanic activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level II (Alert). Seismicity observations on October 14, 2025, at 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 72 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 15-28 millimeters and earthquake durations of 29-81 seconds.

Then, 2 times of exhalation earthquakes with amplitudes of 8-10 millimeters and earthquake durations of 43-44 seconds, and 17 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2-28 millimeters and earthquake durations of 61-211 seconds.

PVMBG urges communities around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 2.0-kilometer radius and a 3.5-kilometer sectoral expansion towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,644 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,617 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 2,377 times.
