Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again Tonight (Tuesday, May 28, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Tuesday (28/5/2024) at 19:19 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 4 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the eruption was not visually observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 17.76 millimeters and a duration of 317 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level II (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on May 28, 2024, from 00:00 to 23:59 WITA showed 1 eruption earthquake with an amplitude of 20.7 millimeters and a duration of 109 seconds.

Then, there were 2 rockfall earthquakes with amplitudes of 18.5-37 mm and durations of 114-124 seconds, and 2 emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 5.1-17.7 millimeters and durations of 31-34 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 2-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, and within a 3-kilometer sectoral area in the Northeast direction and a 5-kilometer sectoral area in the East Northeast direction.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 818 volcanic eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (327 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 124 times.
