The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 3.02 million cases by Monday, August 15, 2022. Iceland ranks first, with a weekly increase in Omicron cases growing by 60.09 percent. GISAID recorded 1,063 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 0.09 percent compared to the previous day.
Following Iceland is Trinidad and Tobago, with a weekly Omicron case growth of 12.94 percent. The country reported 1,248 new Omicron cases. Daily statistics show a nine percent increase in new Omicron cases compared to the previous day, which recorded 1,145 cases.
Next, Austria saw a 10.19 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 81,341 cases compared to the previous week. Malaysia reported 14,601 new Omicron cases (a 7.55% increase), and Indonesia saw a 5.54 percent increase, reaching 18,301 cases compared to the previous week.
As for Indonesia, the addition of Omicron cases reached 18,301 today, a 0.53 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
