The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.57 million cases by Thursday, September 1, 2022. Bermuda leads with a weekly increase in Omicron cases of 282.14 percent, totaling 107 new cases according to GISAID. Daily cases in Bermuda increased by 282.14 percent compared to the previous day.
Next is Mongolia, which recorded a 131.58 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily data shows a 0.33 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day.
Following this, Belgium reported 73,949 additional Omicron cases (a 21.31% increase), Kosovo saw a 19.39 percent increase to 511 cases compared to the previous week, and Guatemala reported a 14.1 percent increase to 971 cases compared to the previous week.
In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 20,501, a 0.53 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its initial detection, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
