The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 1.67 million cases by Monday, July 18, 2022. The United States recorded the highest number of Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 3.94 percent. GISAID recorded 1.36 million Omicron cases in the US. Daily cases in this region increased by 0.03 percent compared to the previous day.
Next is Australia, which recorded 5.05 percent more Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily Omicron cases in the country increased by 2.99 percent compared to the previous day.
Then, Israel, with 69,962 Omicron cases (up 3.55 percent); Italy saw a 7.54 percent increase in Omicron cases to 41,363 compared to the previous week; and Ireland saw a 5.76 percent increase to 29,663 Omicron cases compared to the previous week.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 15,392, a 0.61 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
