Indonesia's Covid-19 Death Toll Increases by 1,466 (Thursday, August 12, 2021)

COVID-19 deaths increased by 1,466 on Thursday, August 12, 2021. This brings the total number of coronavirus deaths in Indonesia to 113,664.

The highest increase in coronavirus deaths came from Central Java, with 386 deaths. This was followed by East Java with 305 deaths.

There were also 98 additional coronavirus deaths in Lampung and 90 in West Java.

Central Kalimantan reported 64 additional coronavirus deaths, while the Riau Islands reported 45.

For information, the government has decided to temporarily remove death data from the indicators used to assess the handling of the coronavirus. The reason is that much of the data is outdated and requires correction.

Panji Fortuna, an expert staff member at the Ministry of Health, explained that death reports from regional areas are not real-time. The reported data is an accumulation from previous months.

This biased data leads to inaccurate assessments of the PPKM level in a region. The five other indicators still in use are bed occupancy rate, confirmed cases, hospitalizations, tracing, testing, and socio-economic conditions of the community.
