This week's COVID-19 statistics in Asia show a decline in deaths in most countries, a reversal from the previous trend of continuous increases. Thirteen countries reported an increase in deaths this week, while 21 others reported fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage increase, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths were the United Arab Emirates, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Cyprus, and Uzbekistan. A total of 59 deaths were recorded in these five countries as of Friday, December 24, 2021, representing a weekly growth of over 9.52 percent.
The United Arab Emirates recorded the highest increase in COVID-19 deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 50 percent. Worldometer recorded three deaths in the country, a 0 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Afghanistan followed with a weekly growth in deaths of 30 percent. Daily death figures in the country increased by 30% compared to the previous day, totaling 10 deaths.
Next, Saudi Arabia reported 10 deaths (up 25%), Cyprus reported 10 deaths (up 11.11%), and Uzbekistan reported a 9.52% increase in deaths.
Looking at the total number of reported deaths, India recorded the highest number of deaths in Asia over the past seven days, with 2,281 deaths. This represents a 6.89% increase compared to the previous week. Following India, Vietnam reported 1,635 deaths (down -2.15%), Turkey reported 1,261 deaths (down 0%), the Philippines reported 467 deaths (down -16.61%), and South Korea reported 450 deaths (up 2.04%).
A total of 8,315 deaths were recorded in Asia over the past seven days. This accounts for 18.04 percent of global COVID-19 deaths, which totaled 46,082. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day period, which recorded 8,523 deaths.
