The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) recorded 159 regencies/cities with a weekly agglomeration of confirmed positive COVID-19 cases above the national average, currently recorded at 0.66 per 100,000 population/week (data as of Wednesday, January 4, 2023).
The top five regencies/cities with confirmed positive cases exceeding 3.92 per 100,000 population/week are Sorong (13.23 per 100,000 population/week), Teluk Wondama (5.61 per 100,000 population/week), Mimika (4.9 per 100,000 population/week), Belu (4.73 per 100,000 population/week), and Tangerang City (3.92 per 100,000 population/week).
A recapitulation of national COVID-19 data from the Ministry of Health shows a decrease in confirmed positive cases in most regencies/cities outside Java. Forty-nine regencies/cities recorded higher daily confirmed positive cases than previously, while 49 others recorded lower numbers.
Areas outside Java with the highest confirmed positive cases include Sorong (13.23 per 100,000 population/week), Teluk Wondama (5.61 per 100,000 population/week), and Mimika (4.9 per 100,000 population/week).
Although COVID-19 transmission has decreased in some areas, the government urges everyone to help reduce transmission by consistently wearing masks, maintaining physical distance, and frequently washing hands with soap and running water. Avoiding crowds and reducing mobility also contribute to suppressing the spread of the coronavirus.
