The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.38 million cases by Friday, November 4, 2022. According to GISAID data, the Philippines recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with 10,829 new cases. This represents 0.2 percent of the total global Omicron cases.
Next is Guatemala, which recorded a 9.03 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily data shows a 3.62 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day.
Furthermore, Bermuda saw a 7.09 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 136 cases compared to the previous week. Algeria reported 292 new Omicron cases (a 5.42 percent increase), and Trinidad and Tobago reported 1,897 new Omicron cases (a four percent increase).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, as of yesterday, there were 25,348 Omicron cases, a 0.11 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its first detection, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has steadily increased.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
