The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.55 million cases by Friday, October 14, 2022. According to GISAID data, Saudi Arabia recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with 89 new cases. The total number of Omicron cases in Saudi Arabia currently represents 0 percent of the global total.
Next is Russia, which recorded a 21.12 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily data shows a 3.12 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day.
Furthermore, Omicron cases in North Korea increased by 10.52 percent to 55,001 compared to the previous week; in Ukraine, they increased by 10.02 percent to 681 cases; and in Algeria, they increased by 9.43 percent to 267 cases.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 23,920 as of yesterday, a 0.65 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
